If your library hasn’t implemented a reading program this summer, you’re missing out! Summer reading programs allow parishioners to say connected with the Church while they are traveling. You can implement one easily and have users track what they read. It’s good to have multiple divisions such as:
- Primary K-3
- Intermediate 4-5
- Teens
- Adults
To encourage broader participation, you can offer prizes for completions in each division, and a grand prize for each division. Having a Christian-oriented theme can help.
Providing suggested reading materials for each division on your library’s web site and in print form along with call numbers to facilitate browsing the shelves is a great way to get readers perked up.
